The First Battle of Bull Run, also known as the First Battle of Manassas, was fought on July 21, 1861, during the American Civil War. It was the first major land battle of the war and took place near Bull Run Creek in Prince William County, Virginia, just outside the town of Manassas. The Confederate Army, led by General P.G.T. Beauregard, clashed with the Union Army, commanded by General Irvin McDowell. The battle resulted in a Confederate victory and highlighted the long and brutal nature of the conflict.
