Overextension and fragmentation caused the collapse of the Mongol Empire because they tried to control too much land and people at the same time. They stretched themselves too thin and it became hard to govern such a big empire. The Mongols also started fighting with each other and their leaders died, which made it even harder to keep the empire together. This led to different parts of the empire breaking apart and the Mongol Empire finally falling apart.
