The herpes simplex virus can survive for a short time on objects such as lip balm. It can last anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days outside of the body. However, it is important to note that transmission of the virus through shared lip balm is relatively rare. It is still advisable to avoid sharing personal items like lip balm to minimize the risk of transmission.
