Valleys and mountain ranges form through the process of plate tectonics. The Earth's crust is made up of several large and small plates that float on the semi-fluid mantle underneath. The movement of these plates, which can be driven by forces like convection currents, causes them to collide or separate. When plates collide, they can create intense pressure, leading to the formation of mountains. On the other hand, when plates separate or move away from each other, it creates gaps where valleys form. This process is known as crustal deformation and happens over millions of years.
