I am asked to draw the structure of n-butyne, but what is meant by n-butyne?

n means normal, which means it is a single chain, no branches.

CH3-C*C-CH3 where * means a triple bond
The proper name for this is 2-butyne.

There is another butyne, 1-butyne. Both are straight chains.

The use of normal here is not proper, at least here in Texas.
