The Charter of Georgia, which was granted by King George II, was effective from 1732 to 1752. After the expiration of the charter, Georgia transitioned from a proprietary colony to a royal colony on July 25, 1752. From that point on, the British monarch directly appointed the colonial governor and had more control over the governance of Georgia.
