Your essay outline submission link is now open.

You must choose either Topic A or B for the essay outline. Please choose only one. Once you have chosen your brief, please write the essay outline. Once you have submitted the outline, you cannot change your topic.

The essay outline template and the submission link are available on the Turnitin Assignments tab.



Topic A

Title: The Impact of Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education: A Toulmin Model Argumentative Essay


Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly advancing and reshaping various industries, including higher education. Write an argumentative essay, in which you use the Toulmin model of argumentation to investigate the claim that AI technology can significantly enhance the quality and effectiveness of higher education.

Use a minimum of three academic sources from reputable journals, books, or scholarly publications to support your claims. Ensure that you properly cite and reference these sources. Marks will be deducted if this is not met.
Your essay should consist of a total of five paragraphs, including the introduction and conclusion. Minimum of 800 words and a maximum of 1200 words, excluding references.
Apply the Toulmin model of argumentation to structure your essay. Clearly present your claim, explain the warrant and discuss possible rebuttals.
Use Arial, Calibri or Times New Roman font size 12 (no decorative fonts)
Use 1.5 spacing
In terms of margins, use 2.54 (1 inch) on all sides
This is a turn-it-in submission
Cases of plagiarism (partial or extensive) or AI-generated text will be penalised.
The due date for the outline is Friday, 25 August 2023 @ 16H00
The outline counts for 20 marks

Title: The Impact of AI in Higher Education: A Rogerian Model Approach

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the landscape of various industries, including higher education. Write an argumentative essay using the Rogerian model of argumentation to explore the impact of AI in higher education.

Use a minimum of three academic sources from reputable journals, books, or scholarly publications to support your claims. Ensure that you properly cite and reference these sources using harvard referencing style.
Your essay should consist of five paragraphs, including an introduction and conclusion. Aim for a minimum of 800 words and a maximum of 1200 words, excluding references.
Apply the Rogerian model of argumentation to find common ground and foster mutual understanding between differing viewpoints.

Use Arial, Calibri or Times New Roman font size 12 (no decorative fonts)

Use 1.5 spacing

To complete the essay outline assignment, follow these steps:

1. Access the Turnitin Assignments tab:

- Log in to your course platform or website.
- Go to the "Assessments" section.
- Click on the "Turnitin Assignments" tab.

2. Choose one topic:

- Review topic A and topic B descriptions provided.
- Decide which topic you want to write your essay outline on. Remember, you can only choose one topic.

3. Understand the essay requirements:

- Read the instructions and guidelines for your chosen topic carefully.
- Ensure you understand the format, word count, and referencing style required for your essay.

4. Gather academic sources:

- Start researching and gathering a minimum of three academic sources from reputable journals, books, or scholarly publications.
- Ensure the sources adequately support your claims and arguments.

5. Understand the argumentation model:

- Review the Toulmin model if you chose topic A or the Rogerian model if you chose topic B.
- Familiarize yourself with the structure and elements of the chosen argumentation model.

6. Structure your essay outline:

- Create a clear and logical structure for your essay outline.
- Divide it into five paragraphs: introduction, three body paragraphs, and conclusion.
- Ensure each paragraph has a clear topic or argument.

7. Start writing your essay outline:

- Open a blank document or use the template provided.
- Use Arial, Calibri, or Times New Roman font size 12 (no decorative fonts).
- Set 1.5 line spacing and 2.54 (1 inch) margins on all sides.
- Follow the specific instructions for each paragraph, including the claim, warrant, rebuttals, and use of academic sources.
- Stay within the minimum word count of 800 words and maximum of 1200 words, excluding references.
- Make sure to adhere to the required referencing style (Toulmin: cite and reference sources, Rogerian: use Harvard referencing style).

8. Proofread and edit:

- Once you have completed your essay outline, review it for any grammatical or spelling errors.

9. Submit your essay outline:

- Save your essay outline.

- Make sure to submit your essay outline before the deadline, which is Friday, 25 August 2023, at 16:00.
