Japan was primarily a colonial force in Asia, not Africa. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Japan embarked on an aggressive campaign of expansion and colonization in Asia. This included the annexation of Taiwan in 1895, the colonization of Korea from 1910 to 1945, and the occupation of Manchuria in 1931, which later expanded into the creation of the puppet state of Manchukuo. Japan also launched invasions and occupied parts of China during the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937-1945). However, Japan did not have significant colonial holdings in Africa.
