What defines vascular plants?

Vascular plants, also known as tracheophytes, are defined by the presence of specialized tissues called xylem and phloem. These tissues form a vascular system that allows for the transport of water, minerals, and nutrients throughout the plant. This vascular system enables vascular plants to grow larger and thrive in a variety of environments. Other characteristic features of vascular plants include the presence of true roots, stems, and leaves, as well as a life cycle that involves an alternation of generations between a dominant sporophyte (diploid) and a less dominant gametophyte (haploid) phase.
