1. When designing the piece, I first considered what the purpose of the piece would be and what materials would be best suited for that function. I had to consider factors such as durability, cost, and aesthetics when choosing the materials. In order to make the piece both functional and artistic, I had to balance the practical considerations of the materials and construction with my artistic vision. Some challenges in making the piece functional and artistic included finding materials strong enough to serve their purpose while still being visually appealing, and integrating artistic elements in a way that did not detract from the functionality of the piece.

2. To turn this functional piece into a piece of art, I added unique design features that reflected my own creative style and artistic influences. I used various tools to shape, carve, or paint the materials in order to bring my vision to life, such as woodworking tools for a wooden piece, or specific jewelers' tools for a metal piece. The artistic design was inspired by a combination of various styles I researched, as well as my personal experiences and emotions. My goal was to create a piece that not only served its intended function but also communicated a deeper meaning and evoked an emotional response from the viewer.
