Note: For questions 22–23, remember to show all of the steps that you use to solve the problem. Be sure to use the text box where the question mark (?) first appears to show your mathematical work. You can use the comments field to explain your work. Your teacher will review each step of your response to ensure you receive proper credit for your answer.

You buy clothing at a sale. You buy a sweater at seven-tenths of its original price of $35. Answer each question and show all your work.

a. How much money did you spend?
b. How much money did you save?
c. What fraction of the total original price did you save?

a. To find out how much money you spent, you need to multiply the original price of the sweater by seven-tenths.

7/10 x $35 = $24.50

Therefore, you spent $24.50.

b. To find out how much money you saved, you need to find the difference between the original price and the amount you spent.

$35 - $24.50 = $10.50

Therefore, you saved $10.50.

c. The fraction of the total original price that you saved is the difference between the original price and the amount you spent, divided by the original price.

$10.50 / $35 = 3/10

Therefore, you saved 3/10 of the total original price.
