pythagorean triple definition

A Pythagorean triple is a set of three integers, a, b, and c, that satisfy the Pythagorean theorem, which is a^2 + b^2 = c^2. In other words, if you create a right triangle with side lengths a, b, and c, then the sum of the squares of the two shorter sides will be equal to the square of the longest side (the hypotenuse). For example, the numbers 3, 4, and 5 form a Pythagorean triple because 3^2 + 4^2 = 5^2. Other examples include 5, 12, and 13 and 8, 15, and 17.
