Slaked lime, also known as calcium hydroxide or hydrated lime, is an inorganic compound formed by the reaction of quicklime (calcium oxide) and water. It has a variety of uses, including in the production of cement, mortar, and plaster, as well as in the treatment of drinking water and wastewater. It can also be used as a food additive, pH regulator in agriculture, and in the making of traditional paints and whitewashes. Slaked lime exhibits alkaline properties and can be corrosive in high concentrations.
