According to Muslim belief, while Muhammad was praying in the Cave of Hira, he had a revelation from the angel Gabriel, who conveyed a message from God. This marked the beginning of Muhammad's mission as the last Prophet and the start of the revelations that would form the foundation of the Islamic faith. These revelations were eventually compiled into the holy book of Islam, the Quran. The first revelation is known as the event of the "first revelation" or the "Night of Power" (Laylat Al-Qadr).
