In a class of 60 students, the number of student who passed Biology is 6 more than the number who passed Chemistry. Every student passed at least one of the two subjects.

1. How many students passed Biology?
2. How many students passed chemistry?
3. How many students passed only one subject?

if each student passed only one then

B = C + 6
B + C = 60

C + 6 + C = 60
2 C = 54
C = 27
B = 33
Now What if the 27 who passed Chem also passed Bio?
that would leave 5 that only passed Bio
so chem only is between 0 and 27
and Bio only is between 5 and 33

bad subtracting use 6 not 5 for 33 - 27
