Henry VIII is closely associated with the Act of Supremacy and Sir Thomas More. The Act of Supremacy was a law passed in 1534 that declared Henry VIII the Supreme Head of the Church of England, thus separating the Church of England from the Roman Catholic Church. This act was a major part of the English Reformation. Sir Thomas More was a prominent English lawyer, philosopher, and statesman who opposed the Act of Supremacy and was eventually executed for treason for his refusal to recognize Henry VIII as the Supreme Head of the Church of England.
