Hadrian's Wall would have been very effective in the 100s CE. It was designed to be a physical barrier to protect Roman Britain from attacks, and its length of 73 miles would have made it difficult for any attackers to breach. Additionally, the wall was guarded by Roman soldiers, which would have further deterred any potential attackers.
