Mid latitude cyclones move from west to east due to the Coriolis effect. The Coriolis effect is a phenomenon caused by the Earth's rotation, which causes winds and currents to be deflected to the right in the Northern Hemisphere and to the left in the Southern Hemisphere. This deflection causes the cyclones to move from west to east.
