In the story "No Dogs Bark" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, the author uses imagery to create a vivid picture of the town and its inhabitants. Marquez paints a picture of a small, isolated town where the people are so poor that they have to resort to stealing in order to survive. He describes the town as "a place of mud and straw, of dogs and chickens, of children and old people, of poverty and hunger." This imagery creates a vivid image of the town and its inhabitants, and conveys the desperation of the people living there.
Marquez also uses symbolism to convey the idea of hope in the face of despair. He describes the townspeople as "waiting for something that never came," which symbolizes their hope for a better life.
