A car of mass 500 kg is moving at 24 m/s. A lion of mass 100 kg drops on to the roof of the car from overhanging branch. Show that the car will slow down to 20 m/s.

Using the law of conservation of momentum, we can calculate the final velocity of the car.

Initial momentum of the car = 500 kg * 24 m/s = 12,000 kg m/s

Final momentum of the car = (500 + 100) kg * v

12,000 = 600v

v = 20 m/s
