Why are smoke signals cultural appropriation?

Smoke signals are a form of communication used by many Indigenous peoples in North America. As such, it is considered cultural appropriation when non-Indigenous people use smoke signals as a form of communication, as it is seen as a form of disrespect to the cultures that originated the practice. Additionally, it is seen as a form of cultural appropriation because it is taking a practice that is specific to a certain culture and using it without understanding or respecting its cultural significance.
