in 1965 we had to do:

-1.6008
= -2 + 0.3992

in the antilog tables, went to row .39 under the 9 to get 2506
looking in the same row under a Mean Difference of 2 (the next digit) gave me 1
so 2506+1 = 2507 as the significant digits, but the table assumes the decimal to be
after the first digit, sofar I have
2.507

the -2 tells me to move my decimal 2 places to the left

then antilog -1.6008 is .02507
