1/4 of the fruits at a supermarket are apples. The rest of the fruits are oranges and pears in the ratio 7:2. There are 120 more oranges than apples. Find the number of pears in the supermarket.

If there are x fruits in all, and 9y oranges & pears, then

7y = 1/4 x + 120
9y + 1/4 x = x
x = 360
y = 30
so there are 2y = 60 pears
