If Jim’s backyard is a rectangle that is 15 5/6 yards long and 10 2/5 yards wide.Jim buys sod in pieces that are 1 1/3 yards long and 1 1/3 yards wide. How many pieces of sod will Jim need to cover his backyard with sod

Very strange pieces of sod, the ones I have used came in rolls which

were not squares.
Anyway.....
Since sod can be easily cut, we can trim and fit and simply divide the
total area by the area of each piece of sod..

Area of yard = 15 5/6 x 10 2/5 yds^2
= (95/6)(52/5) yds^2
= 494/3 yds^2

area of 1 piece of sod = 1 1/3 x 1 1/3 yds^2
= 16/9 yds^2

number of pieces = 92 5/8 pieces
I would just buy 100 of them to avoid little tiny pieces.

(strange question, could have been planned better)
