poured into the tank and the pail. The ratio of the water in the tank to that in the pail became 7: 2.

(b) How much water was poured into the pail?
35+x : 4.5+x = 7:2
(35+x)/(4.5+x) = 7/2
31.5 + 7x = 70 + 2x
5x = 38.5
x = 7.7
