Two political activists, Gordon and Ronald, have a friendly bet to see who can get the most signatures on a petition. So far, Gordon has collected 40 signatures and Ronald has collected 30 signatures. Gordon is averaging 2 new signatures per minute, while Ronald is managing to collect an average of 4 signatures per minute. Assuming this trend continues, they will have a tie before long. How many signatures will each one have at that point?

40 + 2/min = Gordon

30 + 4/min = Ronald
when they are equal the G + R so
40 + 2/min = 30 + 4/min.
Let x = min and
40*x + 2 = 30*x + 4
10x = 2
x = 10/2 = 5 min
so 40 + 5*2 = ?
and 30 + 5*4 = ?
