Find derivatives of cos^2x and sin^3x without using chain or product rules

cos^2x = (1 + cos2x)/2

sin^3x = (3sinx - sin3x)/4
but doing cos2x and sin3x requires the chain rule. Good luck getting simpler than these formulas.
