The Singhs are putting a flagstone deck around their pool.

The pool is rectangular.
Its dimensions are 10 m by 6 m.
The deck will surround the pool. It will have a width of 3 m.

What is the area of the deck?

the deck's area is the difference between the enclosed pool and just the pool.

The deck is on both sides, so its area is
(10+6)(6+6) - 10*6 = ____ m^2

Help me please I need this because without practice I won't pass my test!!!!!

Thanks but I need a certain formula bxh/2

If anyone can do that pleaseeee help

multiply 16 by 12 = 192 = area enclosed by outside of deck.

subtract 60 = area of pool itself
You get 132 m^2

b*h/2 is a triangle, nothing to do with a rectangular pool.

Thanks one more question: How much security fencing is required around the deck?

length of deck = 10 + 6 = 16

width = 6 + 6 = 12
so
2 * (12+16) = 56 meters

Of course you need a gate :)

To find the area of the deck, we need to calculate the difference between the area of the outer rectangle (pool + deck) and the area of the inner rectangle (just the pool).

1. Calculate the area of the outer rectangle:
The length of the outer rectangle will be equal to the length of the pool plus twice the width of the deck (since the deck surrounds the pool on both sides).
Length of the outer rectangle = 10 m + 2 * 3 m = 10 m + 6 m = 16 m

Similarly, the width of the outer rectangle will be equal to the width of the pool plus twice the width of the deck.
Width of the outer rectangle = 6 m + 2 * 3 m = 6 m + 6 m = 12 m

Area of the outer rectangle = Length * Width
Area of the outer rectangle = 16 m * 12 m = 192 m²

2. Calculate the area of the inner rectangle (pool):
Area of the pool = Length * Width
Area of the pool = 10 m * 6 m = 60 m²

3. Calculate the area of the deck:
Area of the deck = Area of the outer rectangle - Area of the pool
Area of the deck = 192 m² - 60 m² = 132 m²

Therefore, the area of the deck around the pool is 132 square meters.
