2019-Q4 (Science benchmark question)

Which change occurs when lemon juice is mixed with water?
F. The mass of the lemon juice decreases
G. The water becomes a solid
H. The lemon juice dissolves and spreads out evenly in the water
J. The volume of the water decreases
Please help!!

First let me say that I am pleased that you made a 100% on that test. Second, I am pleased that PsyDAG came to your rescue. However, I want to ask why you would have failed the test. I want to ask why common sense wouldn't have served you well. Here are the choices and my comments.

F. The mass of the lemon juice decreases. Wouldn't common sense tell you that the amount (1 oz, 2 oz, whatever) of the lemon juice added to the water would not change? Where is it going. What would happen to make it disappear?

G. The water becomes a solid What makes you think that adding lemon juice to water would make the water freeze?

H. The lemon juice dissolves and spreads out evenly in the water
J. The volume of the water decreases Same as the lemon juice disappearing. The water could evaporate but that won't happen very fast.
Next. So the only answer that is left is the correct one and that's the common sense one. I think students sometimes give up on a test question when a little common sense would help them make a better grade. Good luck in your future tests.

Tysm PsyDAG!!! That was the only question left to my test, tysmmmm I got a 100%!! Without your help, I would have failed :(.

Missing one question is not failure. It's human.

I thought I would fail since this was a 4 question test, and I thought that if I got one wrong, I would get a 75%, but thx for the encouragement!

It's a benchmark review question, sorry for not adding that 😅

thank you! I will donate 1000$ for your help you got me a vacation!
