A metal has two oxides,X and Y.when each of the oxides was heated to a constant mass in a current of pure hydrogen, the following results were obtaided.1.85 of X gave 0.32g of oxygen,1.90 of Y gave 0.38g of oxygen.show that these results illustrate the law of multiple proportions.

Sorry but I don't get it. If we heat an oxide in H2, we get water, not oxygen.

For example, if the metal oxide, X, is MO and we heat that in a stream of pure H2, the reaction is MO + H2 ==> M + H2O
