Re: Summary of the JA Memo

Dear Ms. xxxxxxxxxxxx

The JA memo you requested is summarized below.
The purpose of Joe Achiever’s memo is to give details about the JA 23rd annual Junior Achievement Bowl-a-thon fundraiser.

This event will take place on Saturday, November 1st in the Greater Bridgeport/Valley area and continues on Saturday, November 8 th in the Greater Danbury area. The three different locations are Brookfield Lanes in Brookfield, Nutmeg Lanes in Fairfield, and Valley Bowl in Derby. This fundraiser will benefit educational programs for the schools throughout the region. Finally, a “Best Dressed Bowling Pin” contest will be held. Awards are made for each shift at all locations. Each member winning first or second place at all bowling shifts will win a prize. It does not matter how well you can bowl.

I read Joe Achiever's document twice to ensure no important information was missed the first time. This also gave me the opportunity to take notes and underline the major points.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to read my summary. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Best regards,

Luxxxx xxxxxx

I need to elaborate more on the reading strategies I have already mentioned. I am not sure how I can do that. Also, I was thing about adding some other strategies such as, Evaluation which determines whether a part of the text is useful or not. Circling the keyword or phrases

Two things …

"The JA memo you requested is summarized below."
Does JA mean Joe Achiever or Junior Achievement? Whichever it refers to should be spelled out in that first sentence with (JA) after it (the abbreviation in parentheses).

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank you … "
I still think this is too wordy and not literally correct. Are you saying you just want to thank her — or that you are really thanking her? I think it's the latter, right? So cut out the meaningless words at the beginning of that and simply start the sentence with "Thank you … "

Subject: Summary of the JA Memo and Reflection on Reading Strategies

Dear Ms. [Instructor's Name],

I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to provide you with a summary of the JA Memo you assigned, and also to reflect on the reading strategies I found most helpful in gathering information from the document.

The JA Memo written by Joe Achiever aims to give details about the upcoming JA 23rd annual Junior Achievement Bowl-a-thon fundraiser. The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 1st in the Greater Bridgeport/Valley area, followed by another session on Saturday, November 8th in the Greater Danbury area. The three different locations for the fundraiser are Brookfield Lanes in Brookfield, Nutmeg Lanes in Fairfield, and Valley Bowl in Derby. The primary objective of this event is to raise funds for educational programs in schools throughout the region. In addition, there will be a "Best Dressed Bowling Pin" contest, with awards given for each shift at all locations. Prizes will be awarded to members winning first or second place in all bowling shifts, regardless of their bowling skills.

To ensure I fully grasped the content of the memo, I employed several reading strategies. Firstly, I read the document twice, acknowledging that important information might be missed during the initial read-through. This strategy enabled me to gather more details by actively engaging with the content. Secondly, I took notes while reading, jotting down key points and underlining important sections. This technique helped me focus on crucial information and allowed for easier reference later on. Another useful strategy I employed was evaluation - determining the usefulness of different parts of the text. By critically assessing the relevance and significance of certain paragraphs or sections, I was able to prioritize my understanding and gain a more comprehensive grasp of the memo. Additionally, I found circling keywords or phrases to emphasize their importance particularly effective in highlighting key elements and aiding in the retention of information.

In conclusion, I would like to express my gratitude to you for assigning this reading task and giving me the opportunity to practice my reading strategies. I believe that by employing these techniques, I was able to gather a thorough understanding of the JA Memo. I am open to any questions or concerns you may have regarding my summary or the reading strategies used.

Thank you for your time and support.

Best regards,
