  3. yes, i know that, but i need the meaning behind them. like what does "two or more messages you received from your parents about who you are and what you were about" mean. Like what my parent taught me about something?

  4. When I was 4 or so, I remember my father handing me a piece of paper and a pencil to scribble on. He just wanted to give me something to keep me busy, but then he saw that I was trying to imitate him as he kept score during the card game my parents, grandparents, and several holiday guests were playing. "Look at that girl write!" was what he said. [That's one of about three clear memories from my early childhood!!] To me the message was that I was doing something he really liked, so I did more of that -- and on through school years, my intention was to make him proud of me.

    You might be overthinking all this. Just think back and see what you remember at different ages. What were the overall messages you got from the words and actions of your parents?
