This question is tricky, an Alibi is proof that you are not guilty because you weren't at the scene of the crime while the crime was committed (kind of like if you were at the party while someone was murdered, that's an alibi). Actually according to the googles, an alibi is quote "a claim or piece of evidence that one was elsewhere when an act, typically a criminal one, is alleged to have taken place."

"[...] for a crime they did commit." An alibi is used to prove that you DIDN'T commit a crime... So I'm going to say that this is false, that's just MY opinion though.

As written, the answer is "false," as Radar said.

If you meant this, though --> ... for a crime they did NOT commit ... <-- then the answer is "true."

The statement is true. An alibi is a criminal defense strategy where the defendant claims to have been somewhere else at the time the crime was committed, thus providing evidence that they should not be held responsible for the crime they are accused of. To determine if the statement is true or false, one would need to understand the definition of an alibi and how it functions as a defense in criminal cases.
