A compound is formed when 12.2 g Mg combines completely with 5.16 g N. What is the percent composition of this compound? Please show all work and include the percentage of both magnesium and nitrogen.

  1. Don't panic just because this is a science question. If I asked the question this way I'll bet you could answer it. You have 1 lb of apples in a bucket and 1 lb of organges in the bucket; what's the percent apples. You would immediately say 50%. How did you get that.
    (mass apples/total mass)*100 = (1 lb/2 lb)*100 = 50%. Do the same thing for this chemistry problem. They want %Mg and %N.Please post your work if you gfet stuck.
