A mountain climber on Mt. Everest is at 29,035 ft above sea level. A stone at the bottom of the dead sea is at 1,349 ft below sea level. What is the difference in elevation between the mountain climber and the stone?

please can someone help me?

take a look at the number line.

29035 is to the right of 0.
-1349 is to the left of 0.

so, the distance between them (the difference, in other words) is

29035 - (-1349) = 29035+1349 = 30384

actually 29035-(-1349)=30,384

If the mountain climber is at 29,035 ft. above sea level and the stone in the sea is at 1,349 ft. below sea level. Then 29,035 is a positive and the -1349 is a negative. So 29,035 - (-1,349) =30,384.

my life sucks-
