Those members will create a "page" in a characterization book entitled "Two Kinds." Each page will present a character, character terms specific to this character, a graphic image and text suppot that "proves" each character term that has been assigned.

all of mine have to do with people who are static/ flat and don't even have that much lines. especially st.claires and old chongs mother. and waverly has only one line.

so how do i do it?

also have you read "Two Kinds" is waverly static or flat, st.clair static or flat
and is old chongs mother static or flat?

old chong mother- I met Old Lady Chong once, and that was enough. She had a peculiar smell, like a baby that had done

something in its pants, and her fingers felt like a dead person's, like an old peach I once found in the back
of the refrigerator: its skin just slid off the flesh when I picked it up.

waverly-Auntie Lindo’s daughter, Waverly, who was my age, was standing farther down the wall,
about five feet away. We had grown up together and shared all the closeness of two sisters, squabbling over
crayons and dolls. In other words, for the most part, we hated each other. I thought she was snotty. Waverly
Jong had gained a certain amount of fame as "Chinatown's Littlest Chinese Chess Champion."
"She bring home too many trophy." Auntie Lindo lamented that Sunday. "All day she play chess. All day I
have no time do nothing but dust off her winnings." She threw a scolding look at Waverly, who pretended
not to see her.

and

Waverly looked at me and shrugged her shoulders. "You aren't a genius like me," she said matter-of-factly.
And if I hadn't felt so bad, I would have pulled her braids and punched her stomach

st.claire- After the show the Hsus, the Jongs, and the St. Clairs, from the Joy Luck Club, came up to my mother and
father.
"Lots of talented kids," Auntie Lindo said vaguely, smiling broadly. "That was somethin' else," my father
said, and I wondered if he was referring to me in a humorous way, or whether he even remembered what I
had done

If you will state completely what you plan to write up about each of your 3 characters, I'll check it all for you.

waverly

flat character- "you aren't a genius like me"

St.Claire

flat character- they were mentioned in the story but doesn't have much part in the story.

Old Chongs mother-

flat- they were mentioned in the story but doesn't have much part in the story.

is this what my teacher wants?

In your responses for St. Claire and Old Chong's mother, who are "they"?

Make sure each character has all four elements:

Each page will present
1) a character,
2) character terms specific to this character,
3) a graphic image and
4) text suppot that "proves" each character term that has been assigned.

~ You've made a good start, once you figure out who "they" are.
~ You'll need to add more character terms to each one, plus text support (quotations) for each term.
~ You'll need to add a graphic image (a picture) for each one.

"they are"

ok so i'll say

St.Claire

flat character- The couple from The Joy Luck Club, St. Claire were mentioned in the story but doesn't have much part in the story.

Old Chongs mother-

flat- Old Chongs mother was mentioned in the story but doesn't have much part in the story.

isn't the character terms if their flat/static?

about the image i will do it later

old chongs mother, waverly, st. claire are all flat/static right?

Waverly isn't completely "flat," but the others are. What other "character terms" have you been told you can use besides "flat/static"?

What terms (besides "flat") can you use to describe Old Chong's mother, according to the quotation from the story?

I met Old Lady Chong once, and that was enough. She had a peculiar smell, like a baby that had done something in its pants, and her fingers felt like a dead person's, like an old peach I once found in the back of the refrigerator: its skin just slid off the flesh when I picked it up.

she only said to say is their static, flat, round, dynamic, antagonist, protagonist and give text support

you can describe old chong as static

You mean Old Chong's mother, right? Not Old Chong himself?

yea old chongs mother sorry

I'm surprised at such a skimpy assignment. Yes, Old Chong's mother is static, but there's a slight description of her there. I'm surprised that you don't have to tell at least a little about her ... same with the St. Claires.

Waverly is different. She's not the round, dynamic character that the narrator is, but she's more "round" than "flat"!! She provides the antagonism needed in the narrator. Waverly is conceited and thoughtless, but then, she's also pretty much a child. You should be able to say much more about Waverly than about the other two.

so what i say waverly is round? and then for text support is becuase she says

"you arent a genius like me" i need help on text support on why each is which cause the other two rarely have anything

Old Chong's mother must be a VERY old lady. How do I know? Because the narrator refers to Mr. Chong as "old." So ... what is there in what you quoted that fits with being a very old person? Use that.

The St. Clairs are the flattest of all ... there is NOTHING in here that describes them except that they were members of the Joy Luck Club. Do you know what that club was all about? That's your only clue about them.

no it doesn't say it only says that her parents invited the couples in the joy luck club.

how does being old have to do w/ being old?

so i just say that all of them arte flat/static because

waverly- keeps the feeling she is better than jeing-mei, "you aren't a genius like me", doesn't show any surprises, coincieted

St.Claire

flat character- The couple from The Joy Luck Club, St. Claire were mentioned in the story but doesn't have much part in the story. they remain the same throughout the story

Old Chongs mother-

flat- Old Chongs mother was mentioned in the story but doesn't have much part in the story. they remain the same throughout the story

So that means the St Clairs are friends with the narrator's parents, right? Do you kow where this story comes from? It's a chapter out of the book called The Joy Luck Club.

"The Joy Luck Club refers to the novel by Amy Tan, published in 1989 ... In various forms, tales of four women from mainland China and their Asian-American daughters are told in first-person narratives."

i read the story so the thing i put above was wrong?

so for the pictures i can draw a person who is conceited and then write "you aren't a genius like me"

what can i draw for the other 2?

The St Clairs are a husband and wife ... the wife was born in China and married to a man from the US. They have raised a daughter about the same age as the narrator, Jing-Mei. Use your imagination.

Many very old women are really tiny because of bone-density loss. I imagine this lady as very tiny and very skinny. Here are some images of elderly Chinese women. What do you think? Use your imagination.

There's more about Waverly than what you have listed. Don't throw that out, but add what else you know about her. Reread what you posted above. And use your imagination!

ok so if i draw the picture of an old lady. then what do i say for the text support that shows that their flat/static?

Write up what you think ... and post it. I'll check it for you.

ok so if i draw the picture of an old lady. i'll say and "her fingers felt like a dead person's" or i won't write anything since she rarely is involved in the plot of the story and i'll just write flat because she stayed the same throughout the story and i'll do the same with St. Claire's

right

ok so i won't right anything. so what i have about ST. Claire and Old Lady Chong is correct right? but i need to work on Waverly for st. claire i draw a chinese couple right?

The St Clairs are a husband and wife ... the wife was born in China and married to a man from the US.

is there anything else i can put? so i get a good grade?

i don't undrstand this.
