We have to solve for the problem below to make sure that it is equivalent to 2csc(x). However, I keep getting 2/2sin(x) and not 2/sin(x), which is what 2csc(x) is.

tan(x)/(1+sec(x))+ (1+sec(x))/tan(x)= 2csc(x)

  1. tan(x)/(1+sec(x))+ (1+sec(x))/tan(x)
    = tan x/[(cosx+1)/cosx]
    + [(cosx+1)/cosx]/tanx
    = sin x/(cosx+1) + (cosx +1)/sinx
    = [sin^2 x + (cosx +1)^2]/[sinx(1 + cosx)]
    = (sin^2x + cos^2x + 2 cos x + 1)/[sinx(1 + cosx)]
    = 2 (1 + cosx)/[sinx(1 + cosx)]
    = 2/sin x = 2 csc x

    how do you solve this problem? 1/2x - 3 = -1 Let me make sure I understand the problem. Do you mean (1/2)x - 3 = -1, i.e. .5x-3 = -1?, or 1/(2x) - 3 = -1 I'm going to suppose you mean the first one. There is one very simple, but
