I am looking forward to transitioning into the new position as a medical coder, which has been open within the coding department, that I have currently been working as a clerk. By assuming the role as a clerk, my duties have allowed me the opportunity to help the coders with looking up documentation in order for them to finish coding a patient’s account. In the process of helping the coders looking for documentation it became clear to me that I enjoyed the research with in the patients chart. Along with the position of being a clerk for the Coding department I was also lucky enough to be assigned eLearning modules through McStrategies, I was enrolled in the same modules as the coders, by doing these eLearning modules, reinforced my decision to pursue a career in Medical Billing and Coding. While doing the eLearning modules I found a new appreciation for reading, researching, using a CPT book to look up codes and extreme satisfaction that I was able to code from Doctors notes with accuracy. By using a CPT book and reading the Doctors notes and compare what they were saying to the book, my results for these eLearning modules were extremely well considering I knew very little about coding. My experience as a clerk for the Coding Department was the driving force into my decision to pursue this new career. I am looking forward to apply me new skills in a career that I know I will enjoy.
