Physics(class) /Math (problem)

Moe earns 15% more than her husband Joe. Together they make 78000 per year. What is Joe’s annual salary?

Answer to two significant figures.

My answer was $31000, but the program doesn't seem to want to take it. Did I do something wrong?

  1. if Joe makes J dollars, then Moe earns 1.15J

    J + 1.15J = 78000
    J = 36279

    So, Joe makes $36279
    Moe makes $41721

    add 'em up to get 78000
