what is x?

x + 2 11/14 = 5 13/21

basically, i want to know the formula to finding x. i tried to change the fractions to eqivalent fractions... any other ways?

x = 2 5/6 or 17/6 ((5 13/21) - (2 11/14))

thank you so much. i forgot about simplifying .

To find the value of x in the equation x + 2 11/14 = 5 13/21, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Convert the mixed numbers to improper fractions.
2 11/14 can be converted to an improper fraction as (14 * 2 + 11)/14 = 39/14.
5 13/21 can be converted to an improper fraction as (21 * 5 + 13)/21 = 118/21.

So, the equation becomes x + 39/14 = 118/21.

Step 2: Get rid of the fraction in the equation by multiplying both sides by the least common multiple (LCM) of 14 and 21, which is 42.

Multiply both sides of the equation by 42 to eliminate the fractions:
42 * x + (42 * 39/14) = (42 * 118/21).

This simplifies to 42x + 39 * 3 = 2 * 42 * 7.

Step 3: Solve the resulting equation.
Multiply 39 by 3 to get 117, and on the right side, simplify 2 * 42 * 7 to get 588.
The equation is now 42x + 117 = 588.

Subtract 117 from both sides:
42x = 588 - 117,
42x = 471.

Step 4: Solve for x.
Divide both sides of the equation by 42:
x = 471/42.

Dividing 471 by 42 gives you x = 11 1/6.

Therefore, x is equal to 11 1/6.
