Determine how far electricity travels in 16 mins.
a. 1,785,600 mi
b. 17,856,000 mi
c. 178,560,000 mi
d. 1,785,600,000 mi
Well, depends how and through what.
If it is an electromagnetic wave in empty space (whatever that might be) it travels at about 3*10^8 meters/sec. That is about 186,000 miles per second; 11,160,000 miles per minute
11,160,000*16 = 178,560,000 miles
I suppose the real idea of this question was to figure out how many miles per minute is 3*10^8 m/s , which is how most of us remember the speed of light.
so
3*10^8 m/s *60 s/min * 1km/1000m *.6124mi/km
=.110232*10^8
=11,023,200. miles/minute
which is not exactly what I looked up but about right since I used 3*10^8 m/s which is an approximation
Thanks Damon. I looked at various resources and could not find the speed of light.
To determine how far electricity travels in 16 minutes, we first need to know the speed at which electricity travels.
Electricity travels at the speed of light, which is approximately 186,282 miles per second.
We can calculate the distance traveled by multiplying the speed of light by the time it takes, which in this case is 16 minutes.
First, we need to convert minutes into seconds by multiplying the given time (16 minutes) by 60 seconds per minute:
16 minutes * 60 seconds/minute = 960 seconds
Next, we multiply the speed of light by the time in seconds:
186,282 miles/second * 960 seconds = 178,699,520 miles
Therefore, the correct answer is c. 178,560,000 mi.
