I don't know how to do a timeline

Can you please give me an example of how to set it up in a table format

I don't know what you mean by a "table format." The site I posted has two examples of the standard way of making a timeline.

I always had my history students make timelines. They made them the same way as shown -- except horizontally rather than vertically.

Create a timeline tracking the major themes/paradigm shifts in American History from the Columbus's voyages through the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). Include the following in your descriptive analysis:

1)The culturalpatterns of the Native American groups prior to European colonization.
2) The effects of British colonization on the Native Americans

To create a timeline tracking the major themes/paradigm shifts in American History from Columbus's voyages through the Mexican-American War, you will need to gather information about the key events and analyze their significance. Here's a breakdown of the major themes and events to include in your timeline:

i) Cultural patterns of Native American groups prior to European colonization:
To understand the cultural patterns of Native American groups, you can research their diverse tribes, languages, religious beliefs, and social structures. Consider including events such as the establishment of complex societies like the Mayans, Aztecs, and Incas, as well as the impact of European diseases on indigenous populations.

ii) Effects of British colonization on Native Americans:
Include the arrival of the British colonists, the establishment of settlements such as Jamestown and Plymouth, and interactions with Native American tribes. Discuss the impact of conflicts, trade, forced labor (such as slavery), and the loss of land on Native American communities.

iii) Evolution of the socio-political milieu during the colonial period:
Describe the establishment of the thirteen British colonies, their varying forms of government (such as royal, proprietary, and self-governing), and the influence of Protestant Christianity on the social life of the colonists. Analyze the role of religion in shaping colonial society, including the Salem Witch Trials and the Great Awakening.

iv) Effects of the Seven Years' War:
Explain the causes and outcomes of the Seven Years' War (also known as the French and Indian War). Discuss how this conflict between European powers over North American territories affected the colonies, including the issue of taxation and increased tensions between colonists and the British.

v) Evolution of the concept of "God-given freedom of the individual":
Trace the development of the idea of individual freedom, starting from the Protestant Reformation's emphasis on individual interpretation of scripture, through the American Enlightenment's focus on reason and individual rights, and the Great Awakening's emphasis on spiritual freedom. Show how these influences led to the articulation of "God-given freedom" in the Declaration of Independence.

vi) Evolution of the socio-political and cultural milieu leading to the formation of key documents:
Analyze the events, ideas, and debates that led to the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution (including the Bill of Rights). Include events such as the Stamp Act, the Boston Tea Party, the Continental Congresses, and the drafting of these pivotal documents.

vii) Character of George Washington and his precedent-setting impact:
Examine the leadership qualities and actions of George Washington as the first President of the United States. Highlight his role in shaping the presidency, establishing precedents (such as the two-term limit), and his influence on future presidents.

viii) Evolution of Jeffersonian Democracy and its legacy:
Discuss Thomas Jefferson's contributions, including the Louisiana Purchase, which doubled the size of the United States, as well as his democratic ideals and policies. Analyze the impact of Jeffersonian Democracy, such as expansion, the Lewis and Clark expedition, and agrarianism.

Remember to include other significant events during this time period, such as the American Revolution and the War of 1812. By analyzing these themes and events, you will be able to construct a comprehensive timeline highlighting the major shifts in American history.
