Observations

• Write a 200- to 300-word response to the following: How have you used the scientific process (unsystematic observation, building theories, and evaluating propositions) in your life to better understand your personality?
Provide an example in your response.

How would you like us to help you with YOUR observations?

since when does the scientific process include unsystematic observation?

This is a PSY230 question for a large grade. I think doing your own homework is better. If you need help with the definitions then go to your online book page 17-19 and this will help on how to do this work.

To answer how I have used the scientific process to better understand my personality, I must explain each step in the scientific process (unsystematic observation, building theories, and evaluating propositions), and then provide an example to illustrate its application in my life.

The first step in the scientific process is unsystematic observation. This involves observing and taking note of behaviors or patterns without any specific plan or hypothesis. In the context of understanding my personality, I have observed my own behavior, thoughts, and emotional responses over an extended period. For example, I have noticed that I tend to become more irritable when I am sleep-deprived.

The next step is building theories. This involves forming hypotheses or explanations based on the observations made. In the given example, I have developed a theory that lack of sleep affects my mood and irritability. I hypothesize that when I do not get enough sleep, my cognitive functioning and emotional regulation are compromised, leading to increased irritability.

The final step is evaluating propositions. This step involves testing the theories or hypotheses through further observation and experimentation to determine their validity. To evaluate my theory about sleep deprivation and irritability, I have taken measures to improve my sleep quality by implementing a consistent sleep schedule and practicing good sleep hygiene. Through this personal experiment, I have observed that when I get sufficient sleep, my irritability decreases significantly.

In conclusion, by using the scientific process of unsystematic observation, building theories, and evaluating propositions, I have better understood my personality. The specific example of observing my own behavior in relation to sleep deprivation and subsequent irritability has allowed me to identify a pattern and form a hypothesis. By testing this hypothesis and making changes in my sleep habits, I have gained valuable insights about my own personality and the factors that influence it.
