  1. They are showing you elaboration in design. The details enhance the body of the work, really setting it apart from the basic design. On the cakes, it is the elaboration that draws your attention, the same on the building, the same on the Smolyak painting...the elaboration of the painting says more about the scene than the womans stance.

    Elaboration is something that is marked by complex detail, the addition of additional detail that clarifies the work, and sets it apart.
