If the loss of arctic sea ice continues, it could disrupt the “cold blob” of water that forms in the North Atlantic, which could weaken the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) - a key ocean current that brings warm water from the tropics to the North Atlantic. This could result in colder temperatures near the western European coast as the AMOC helps regulate the climate in the region. Additionally, as arctic sea ice melts, it will also contribute to rising sea levels which could impact coastal areas in Western Europe.
