Smartphone and Society

A casual glance inside a subway car or bus shows a strange sight. You can see people glued to the screens on their smartphones, raising their heads only to see if they have arrived at their destination. Smartphones have changed the way we communicate for the better, but is there a harmful side to them? Supporters of smartphones say that this tiny gadget is one of the most useful things humans have invented in recent times. It is a multipurpose machine capable of functioning like a computer, phone, camera, and many other things at the same time. Supporters speak of the ease with which one can call anyone, anywhere in the world—something that was totally unfathomable two decades ago. They feel smartphones are now a necessity. However, many others feel smartphones are more of a nuisance. Studies and research have shown that too much exposure to smartphones screens leads to reduced concentration and focus, affects the eyesight and the brain. In conclusion, smartphones will always have supporters as well as opponents. The key lies in using smartphones in moderation and not to depend on them entirely.
