Michael could hardly contain himself. The new computer he ordered had finally arrived! He tore the box open, gazed at the contents for just a moment, and then methodically took out the components: the computer, the monitor, the speakers, the instruction book, the cables, the keyboard, and the mouse. He cleared a space on his desk and carefully set the entire system up. Then, holding his breath, he pressed the on/off button.

Not a sound. Not a whir. Nothing appeared on the screen. Nothing happened at all. Michael checked all the cables again. He made sure the power in the house was working. He went back to the instruction book and checked and double-checked everything. He had done everything right. But the computer was doing nothing at all.
