The result of the Korean War was a stalemate, with both sides, North Korea and South Korea, occupying nearly the same territory as at the start of the war. The border between the two countries remains heavily fortified and heavily guarded to this day, with neither side able to claim a clear victory. The war ended in a ceasefire in 1953, but no formal peace treaty has ever been signed, leaving the two Koreas technically still at war.
