I chose the Nat Turner Rebellion. Nat Turner was an enslaved African American who led a violent slave rebellion in Virginia in 1831. Turner and his followers killed around 60 white people before they were captured and executed. The rebellion scared slave owners because it showed that enslaved people were willing to fight back and seek their freedom, leading to fears of more uprisings across the South. The uprising also led to harsher laws and restrictions on enslaved people to prevent future rebellions.
