I believe the president negotiated with the terrorist because he may have felt that it was the best way to save lives and prevent further violence. He may have believed that reaching a compromise was worth the risk in order to ensure the safety of hostages. However, some may argue that negotiating with terrorists sets a dangerous precedent and may encourage future acts of terrorism.
